Stan & Joyce Orchard

Trying to figure it out since 1975.

Life Goes On And On

Life Goes On And On

Joyce Carol has been tending to this Christmas Cactus for so long, neither of us can remember when it started. We agree it used to be much larger. She took cuttings many years ago and has managed to keep it alive. Still amazes me.

My Trophy Wife

My Trophy Wife

A few years ago, we got serious about our health. Low-carb, intermittent fasting, walking, etc. Today she tipped the scales at 125, the same as she was 45 years ago when we married. To show she’s still wild and crazy after all these years: she took her mask off for this photo. Rebel.

One Dead Salmon

One Dead Salmon

We stopped by the Landsberg park looking for salmon as we always do in October. There was one dead salmon and that was it. Disappointed.

Lookin’ For Love

Lookin’ For Love

Two does just went bounding through our yard followed closely by this guy. Game on!

Evening Sky Show

Evening Sky Show

Saturn, Jupiter and the moon about an hour after sunset. An unexpected celestial show in the midst of cold, autumn weather moving in.

Teach Your Children Well

Teach Your Children Well

Our 15-year-old grandson got his first lesson on the chainsaw today. With our son coaching him and recording for posterity, I kept thinking of my dad and woodcutting during my youth and the years my son accompanied us on our own firewood adventures. Heating with wood takes a lot of work and commitment. The reward is a cozy home on the coldest days…and moments like this.

Red Planet, Red Moon

Red Planet, Red Moon

A little over two hours before sunrise. Mars and the moon look other-worldly through the heavy smoke hanging over the west coast. OH, wait! They are other worlds.

Giant Marshmallows

Giant Marshmallows

The annual harvest is well under way. Spotted them from Snohomish down to Buckley. Looks like a good crop this year. Great for s’mores.

Bloomin’ Deck

Bloomin’ Deck

Plants are blooming, pollinators are busy, nature is fascinating.

Green Garden Friend

Green Garden Friend

This little creature can be found lurking among the potted plants on our deck. Not at all bashful.
