Stan & Joyce Orchard
Trying to figure it out since 1975.
18 & 48
I snapped this photo eight years ago when that little boy turned 10. Today he’s 18. On the day he officially comes of age, his paternal grandparents celebrate the 48th anniversary of their first meeting, a Crab Louie dinner. We still have one of the crab claws. It’s all amazing to me.
Skunk Cabbage In Bloom
Today is the first really warm day of the year. And our favorite wild plant is now in bloom, a sure sign spring is nigh.
She’s Four
We celebrated our youngest grandchild today. Next month, our oldest turns 18. I’m amazed by it all. Be happy, people!
Growing Season 2023 Begins
Today is President’s Day in the U.S. That is the traditional start of the gardening season here on the Orchard Compound, though with the greenhouse we pretty much grow year round. But today we started broccoli, marigolds, peas, onions, spinach, radishes. Here’s to a healthy season.
Firewood Session
Our son, grandson and our youngest granddaughter worked on firewood with me today. It was her first session. She’s a natural.
Red Sky In Morning
Very colorful sunrise today. Looks like rain, maybe some wind, returns tomorrow.
Joyce Carol
On this date long ago in the Territory of Alaska, a child was born. On the darkest day of the year she was a light that still shines for our family. Another year. She still amazes me.
Meet Our New Neighbor
Our little corner of the world continues to change. New homes, new families, and new critters. This furry bovine showed up yesterday to join recent arrivals, mainly chickens at two of the fanciest coops ever built. The neighborhood sounds more lively these days.
Lookin’ For Love
This guy’s been hanging around a few days, trying to get lucky. Not sure if the first snow of the season helps or hinders his efforts.
Frog On Tiger
Cleaning up the deck, wrapping up the growing season, and this little guy stays perched on our fading Tiger Lilly. Guess he hates to see the growing season end.
